Have you ever seen an advertisement in Android’s notification area where you get all kinds of notifications in the notification bar? Some of the apps abuse their notification permissions to display advertisements even if you are not using them. You can always re-enable the notifications by going back into the app settings and rechecking the ‘Show notifications’ box.
For Android 4.0 (ICS) or an older version of Android:
If you’re using Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) or an older version of Android, you can’t block an app from displaying notifications out-of-the-box. The only solution to fix this problem is to remove the app that is displaying and allowing the ads on the notification bar.
