Nigeria’s Sliide Airtime Shortlisted In GSMA’s Global Mobile Awards

Sliide Airtime, a Nigerian mobile advertising technology startup, has been shortlisted in the most prestigious telecom awards in the world, the GSMA’s Global Mobile (Glomo) Awards. The Glomo Awards recognises companies and individuals that are driving innovation in the rapidly evolving mobile industry.

They are judged by world-leading independent experts, analysts, journalists, academics and mobile operator representatives and hotly contested every year by operators and vendors from across the globe.

Launched in March 2016 in Nigeria, Sliide Airtime, Africa’s first lock screen content and mobile advertising delivery platform, is changing the way people interact with their phones by subsidising their airtime. It provides users with a new way of accessing content from their mobile devices, while simultaneously earning free airtime.

After entering information about their interests, users receive personalised content as soon as they wake their phone, including news and entertainment handpicked from local and international media sources as well as branded and sponsored content.

Also, Sliide Airtime provides advertisers with a new and unique platform to reach consumers through their most prized and most frequently used device – the mobile.

Furthermore, it enables mobile network operators to benefit from shared advertising revenues, as well as increased user engagement and time spent online.
Sliide has been shortlisted in the Most Innovative Mobile App category of the Awards together with drupe mobile for drupe; Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited for Jio4GVoice; Telefónica Investigación y Desarrollo for Drivies; and Turkcell for UpCall.

“To even been shortlisted by the GSMA is a real honour for myself and the whole team. It’s great that all our hard work has been recognised but we have a lot more to achieve as we expand and scale up,” said Corbyn Munnik, CEO and founder of Sliide Airtime.

The winner will be presented at the Mobile World Congress, which takes place on February 27 – March 2, 2017 in Barcelona. Other African companies shortlisted in the Awards can be found here.

Last year, Sliide Airtime won numerous awards, chiefly the Best African App at the AppsAfrica Innovation awards, and Mobile Marketing Company of the Year at the Nigerian Telecom Awards. It is hoping to continue this trend by winning at the Glomo.
